Halloween is typically my favorite day of the year, not even Christmas can come close. I love dressing up, seeing the kids have so much fun, and getting to be a kid again myself. I love the pumpkins, the spider webs, and ghosts. I love the sillyness and whimsy of it. But for some reason, this year...I just wasn't feeling it. Even the kids weren't into it. We didn't choose costumes until just a couple of days ago. Well, except for A, who always has multiples to choose from because I like to stock the costume bin when things go on clearance.
We usually have our pumpkins carved early and outside with the rest of our decorations. This year, we waited too long and found that not a single store in the area had any left. The result??? No pumpkin carving for the monsters this year.
I worked today, so I got home late. The kids still weren't in costume, Cameron had his make up to do and Alayna only had 20 minutes to trick or treat before dance. By the time the boys got out there, most of the houses in town were out of candy (like ourselves), the pillowcases weren't even half full! Dinner was a quick throw together meal, and then it was all over. I feel like I've let them down in a way, they are more excited when I am excited. I also have a hard time getting excited about it when the kids can't even wear their costumes to school, they literally only wear them for trick or treating. That was always the best part of Halloween, parading through the school in your costume for all of your friends to see. It makes me sad that my kids can't do that anymore. We've had so much going on in our world that Halloween kind of fell by the wayside this year, and I feel terrible about it. On the plus side, there isn't a mountain of candy in my house. My kids won't be overtired and cranky in the morning, and I didn't freeze my butt walking all over town in the dark. Maybe the pros outweigh the cons. Regardless, here are a few pictures for you to enjoy. Normally I take many more...but again, I'm a slacker this year. Happy Halloween!! -K
I told Cameron to make a scary face, this is what I got.
